Thanks this has been very useful.I had some contact with Brama kumaris back in the 80s when I went to a meditation evening and was instantly suspicious of meditation that seemed more like an hypnotic induction.

Over the years I have had fleeting contact with them and nothing has dispelled my initial response indeed it has deepened.I think that as an organisation that they are deeply insidious and should be approached only with great care.

People involved with them are quite another matter and I find myself really concerned for them. This site is doing valuable work for people who are cautious enough to do a little independent research even if they did not smell the skunk in the cupboard.

I also want to thank those who took the time to put up this website. It is truly instrumental in getting the word out to be extra cautious.

    Thanks for the site.
Have just come back from a 5 day retreat in Europe. Many of us felt so dopey the whole time, everyone was nodding off during the meditations, Murli etc. Also, I was envisaging in my meditations what they were preaching i.e. end of the world. I felt like I was in some kind of dream world, which was only dispelled after lunch on the last day and when I looked at my bed for the last time, I felt like I was escaping from some kind of state that is not normal for me.
So far what I have learnt has been really good for me and I will continue to take the good they have to offer, but with caution.

my faith in the sanctity of the institute was questioned for the first time after the talk on celibacy prompting me to look into the matter deeper and even research.
i happened to come across your website en route to my doubts
i am a bk student..joined sometime back..but the chapter on celibacy and abstinence has left me to wonder on the genuineness of their claims.
i am an ocd patient and the strength i received through meditation was of tremendous help in streamlining thoughts and discarding the unnecessary ones.
with the credibility of the university being questioned,i struggle to find my stand on the faith i derived from it initially

My two cents. My wife and I lived as immigrants in Europe for 5 years and it was the BK teachings that gave us the wisdom and strength to face many challenges during that period. But we stopped getting deeper into “the knowledge” the minute we realized they profess chastity while we had plans to build a family of our own. In that sense, we were true to our own “self”. It is a pity not everyone knew when to step back. It is really sad to read how badly their (then) inability to get out at the right moment seems to have impacted their lives. All I can say to you is take your experience as a lesson and move on with your lives. Continue to bring awareness of that experience to other people (what your are doing is great indeed) but do not linger too much in the past. Work on your present and your future will certainly be much, much brighter.
